Your hard work, leadership, and passion for student wellness are instrumental in shaping a stronger, healthier, and more active school community.
National Physical Education and Sport Week is a time to emphasize the importance of fitness, a healthy lifestyle, and a sound mind and body—values that you live out and model every day in your classrooms and on the field. 🎉 Congratulations to Shiniqua Mays! 🎉
NEW ELA LEAD-Newberry Middle School
We are thrilled to announce that Shiniqua Mays has been named the New ELA Lead Teacher for Newberry Middle School for the 2025–2026 school year!
With over a decade of experience in education, Shiniqua brings talent, dedication, and a deep passion for student success to this new role. Her excellence in teaching has been widely recognized—she was named Teacher of the Year and District Teacher of the Year in the Lexington 3 School District and was honored as Teacher of the Month at NMS in March 2025. Mrs. Mays is currently pursuing her doctorate degree.
Beyond the classroom, Shiniqua plays a vital role in our school community. She is an active member of the NMS Leadership Team and has served as a lead teacher in the 21st Century Thriving Tigers After School Program, supporting student growth beyond the school day.
Please join us in celebrating this well-deserved accomplishment and in supporting Ms. Mays as she steps into this exciting leadership role!
TTL (25-26) Bradleigh Dennis
We are excited to announce that Bradleigh Dennis will serve as the Team Teacher Leader (TTL) for Newberry Middle School for the 2025–2026 school year!
Bradleigh has been a dedicated part of the NMS family for the past two years, teaching 8th grade Social Studies. She earned her master's degree from Clemson University—go Tigers! Her energy and enthusiasm make her a perfect fit for this leadership role.
Bradleigh is excited to assist and support our faculty and staff as we work together to make next year our best yet. When she’s not in the classroom, you can find her attending concerts or out walking and enjoying the day.
Join us in cheering her on as she brings her Tiger pride, Purple and Gold spirit, and leadership to NMS in the year ahead!

Exciting News from NMS!
Geron Wiggins-New 7th/8th Grade Honors ELA Teacher
We are thrilled to announce that veteran teacher, Mrs. Geron Wiggins will be stepping into the role of 7th/8th Grade Honors English Teacher, including English I for 8th grade!
Mrs. Wiggins brings a wealth of experience and leadership to this position. She currently serves as our NMS Lead Teacher, PAWsitive Experience Coordinator, ELA Academy Director, and NMS Newspaper Editor. She has also been recognized as Teacher of the Month multiple times over the past three school years—a testament to her dedication and excellence in education.
Currently completing her Gifted and Talented Endorsement through Converse College, Mrs. Wiggins is passionate about challenging and inspiring students at every level. We are incredibly proud to see her take on this new opportunity.

Soccer ⚽️ News!
—- congratulations to the sixth grade student. He participated on the South Carolina Barca Academy (11-12) soccer team in the World Cup in Spain & scored the winning goal versus Luxembourg. As Mr. Pressley stated the board meeting he represented his school, community, district, state, & country to 19th place overall in the World Cup! Proud of this young man.


Beginning Thursday, May 1, Newberry Middle School will start with SC Ready testing for grades 6-8. The schedule is as follows:
• Writing: May 1
• Reading A - Day 1: May 5
• Reading B - Day 2: May 6
• Math: May 8
• Science (6th only): May 9
Students who are currently enrolled in Algebra 1 will take their End of Course exam on May 12.
Students are strongly encouraged to be at school and on time for testing days. We ask that students get a good night’s rest and come to school ready to perform his/her best on the test.


May 2nd-8th Grade Dance (6PM-8PM) Location: Gym/Note: Parents must be at NMS no later than 8:15PM for Pick-up.

Food Around the World Festival sponsored by Newberry High School's National Honor Society. Saturday, May 3rd from 11 - 3.
Food trucks will be on campus to promote food around the world for the whole community to enjoy while also learning a little about their culture. Food Trucks will be donating a percentage of their profits to help purchase school supplies for our students in the community. Please come out for some delicious food and support the education of all our students.

Each student will have an option to keep their school issued device over the summer, however the "opt out form" will need to be completed and turned back into school officials.
All Opt Out Forms have to be submitted by May 9th per district technology officials.
If you need a letter, please contact your student's HR/Enrichment teacher via email and the teacher will ensure a form is sent home with the student to be completed as needed.
