These brand new NHS staff members have been selected by their fellow faculty members for special recognition.

Congratulations to Ms. Alexander, English teacher!

Ms. Alexander is a second-year English teacher and this is her first year at NHS.

Heather Alexander's undergraduate degrees are from Southern Wesleyan University, and her MA is from the University of South Carolina.  In her own words, "My philosophy on teaching is to love my students unconditionally and make learning as exciting as possible."  On a personal note, Ms. Alexander loves being a Bulldog and her family includes her husband, Kevin, and a three-year-old daughter named Evelyn.

Congratulations to Ms. Berley, School Nurse!

Ms. Shannon Berley has been a nurse since May of 2004 and has been a school nurse for 2 years. She received her LPN from Midland’s TechnicalCollege School of Nursing and BSN-RN degree from South University. This is her first year at NHS.

In her own words, "I absolutely love our students and the opportunity to teach them about their health, as well as help them with their medications and sick needs. I enjoy working closely with the students, their families, and our staff to provide a safe and healthy environment, as well as provide healthcare knowledge, assessment, and treatment.  As we all know, healthy students learn best.  One of the greatest things about my job is the opportunity to assist the students with knowledge and skills to prepare them for their future to stay healthy and make healthy choices on their own.  I love when students come back and tell me something they have remembered that has helped them during an illness or helped them to prevent illness.  Being at NHS and working with teenagers is a blessing and my passion."

On a personal note, Shannon lives with her husband of 14 years and with her two sons, Cole and Owen, as well as dogs and goats.  Their family also enjoys traveling and being outdoors.
